Truth (5/29/26)

This week, we focus on truth—the pursuit of clarity and understanding. Let’s explore how Stoic philosophy and Christ’s teaching lead us into truth.

Exploring the Stoic Principle: Seeking Clarity
Stoics valued truth as essential to a well-lived life. Seneca advised, “Seek the truth in all things,” encouraging constant reflection and examination. By questioning assumptions and seeking clarity, we align ourselves with reality.

Stoic views on truth emphasize rational understanding and objective judgment. This allows us to live in alignment with reality and creates a knowing of inner freedom and virtue.

Unpacking the Scripture: John 8:32
John 8:32 declares, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Jesus presents truth as liberating—freeing us from deception, fear, and confusion.

This is one of the most famous verses in the Gospel of John. It talks about spiritual slavery to sin and how the truth of Jesus and his word and teachings allow us to find spiritual freedom.

The Deep Connection
Stoic clarity and biblical truth both lead to freedom. Stoicism seeks truth through reason and reflection, while Christianity reveals truth through God’s word. Together, they guide us toward a life grounded in reality and aligned with purpose.

Action Steps for the Week Ahead

  1. Question a Belief: Examine one assumption and test its truth.

  2. Truth Reflection: Reflect on John 8:32 and what truth means in your life.

  3. Seek Clarity: Take time to think deeply rather than react quickly.

Encouragement for Your Journey
Truth is not always comfortable, but it is always freeing. As you seek it with humility and courage, you’ll gain clarity and direction. Keep pursuing truth—it will guide your path.
