Perseverance (6/05/26)

This week, we focus on endurance—the strength to continue despite difficulty. Let’s explore how persistence shapes both Stoic resilience and Christian faith.

Exploring the Stoic Principle: Sustained Effort
Stoics emphasize persistence as a daily discipline. Marcus Aurelius wrote, “Keep pushing forward,” reminding us that progress comes through steady effort. Endurance is built through consistency, not intensity.

Remember, the key idea is that hardship is not the problem; it’s how you respond to it. You control the power of your mind, the filter through which you view the world and your issues. You can’t control outside events, so don’t waste time and energy trying to.

If you embrace whatever comes, then consistency will become easier with every passing day.

Unpacking the Scripture: Matthew 24:13
Matthew 24:13 states, “The one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” This verse calls for perseverance in faith, emphasizing the importance of remaining committed over time.

Endurance reveals God’s true believers, as trials separate genuine faith from superficial profession. We’ve talked about how it is easier to forgive someone you love versus your enemy. The same holds true with being able to showcase your love and awe of God, regardless of whatever hardship you may be enduring. When you are “winning,” then it is easy to talk about how great God is, but can you still do that while in the middle of being tested?

When you succeed, then your test becomes your testimony!

The Deep Connection
Stoic endurance and Christian perseverance both call for unwavering commitment. Stoics rely on discipline and willpower, while Christians draw strength from faith and hope. Together, they form a powerful foundation for lasting resilience.

Action Steps for the Week Ahead

  1. Persist Daily: Commit to one task and follow through consistently.

  2. Endurance Reflection: Reflect on Matthew 24:13 and where you need persistence.

  3. Build Momentum: Focus on small, steady progress rather than perfection.

Encouragement for Your Journey
Endurance is not about speed—it’s about staying the course. Even when progress feels slow, each step forward matters. Keep going—you are building strength with every effort.
